A Token of Appreciation
By Mary Brophy
Planning a wedding can be hard work – but luckily you've been surrounded by a wonderful group of people who have helped get you through. Your attendants have likely been there for you as you've planned, re-planned, and planned some more. Or, maybe they've arranged to be at your wedding day against all odds, flying in from around the world. Whatever the case, it's time to show a bit of appreciation. Choosing gifts for your attendants and loved ones is a lovely gesture to show your gratitude and let them know how much their efforts have meant to you.
Make a List
It is customary for the bride and groom to give their attendants a token of appreciation, but there may be a few more people you want to acknowledge with a gift. Make a list of anyone who has gone above and beyond the call of duty. This may include a wedding planner who pulled miracles, parents who contributed financially to the big day, and friends that weren't in the bridal party – but were there for you every step of the way.
For the Gals
Spend a bit of extra time and purchase unique gifts for each person. You may consider matching gifts for your bridesmaids, or choose a theme but make each gift slightly different (such as silver pendants with each woman's initial). Indeed, choosing monogrammed gifts is a lovely way to personalize gifts. Consider monogrammed cosmetic bags or personalized bridesmaid bags with their initials. Or, give something memorable for their home by wrapping up a framed photo of all the bridesmaids – choose a frame that says "friends" or "sisters" on it for a keepsake touch.
Gift certificates can also be a lovely token of appreciation – choose a spa, bookstore, or lingerie shop that everyone loves and encourage them to relax and spoil themselves.
